Last night, according to Cloudflare Web Analytics, Bluesky Directory passed 1M visits, and is reporting 1.3M page views.
The dynamic nature of the website behavior means the majority of page views are not being reported. When I did track the actual interactions I was averaging 10 events per visit, which means we've probably close to 10M page views as well.
I never anticipated this level of growth when I started the project back in October.
It obviously helps to be in the right place at the right time.
The wave of people coming from X and other social media platforms, has created a huge demand for information about Bluesky and being well position to give people that information means a lot of visitors.
I'm not sure what the future holds for Bluesky (and hence the directory), but growth is continuing at a solid pace. We should pass 30M users this month, I believe we had just passed 13M back in October.
I'm excited by the prospects!
The flurry of activity surrounding video (after the TikTok ban), has shown many people what the platform enables, and while none of the apps coming out now may replace TikTok, they have shown what is possible with the AT Protocol and Bluesky.
There will be challenges ahead, especially to get to true decentralization/federation. Moderation will become more challenging the larger the platform becomes. Scaling past 30M users to 100M users will present it's own challenges for the platform and the developers now making Blueksy their home.
I'm here for the long haul, I believe Bluesky can become the social media platform we hoped for, and I hope Bluesky Directory remains the best place to get any information you're looking for related to Bluesky/AT Protocol.
